Description
BC Yarn - Jaipur Peace Silk
Jaipur Peace Silk is a non-violent silk. The silk conks here are not cooked with the caterpillar inside as usual. The conks come from the Eri silk worm, which is first released from the conk and then the empty conks are collected. This elaborate process is practiced on the silk farm in northeast Thailand, where the raw silk for our Jaipur Peace Silk comes from. Eri silk is not quite as smooth and lustrous as mulberry silk, as it is not a continuous filament, but feels rather dry, a bit like bourette silk, but more uniform. It has even better climate characteristics than mulberry silk.
Responsibility
BC Yarn focuses on GOTS certified yarns. Currently, 15 BC Yarn qualities are GOTS certified and thus verifiably produced according to strict animal and environmental protection standards. By the way, the GOTS seal is in a way also a guarantor for fair trade, because in all stages of production also criteria like fair wages, labor protection and working conditions, social responsibility and anti-corruption guarantees are checked. Currently, BC Yarn is working on two yarn innovations that are produced with non-violent silk, i.e. silk for the extraction of which the silkworms do not have to die.
